Northwestern and Granola-on-the-Go

Dear Rosie,

Although the granola bars we ate for breakfast in the car this morning were quite ordinary, the reason for grabbing something on-the-go was quite exceptional.  For this was your first day of weekend enrichment class… at Northwestern University, and Daddy couldn’t be more proud!

You’re a little girl who blows my brain in every which way.  Oozing with creativity, you live in a world of pure imagination.  Over the last 10 years, I’ve watched your vivid mind constantly provoke you to build, to create something out of nothing.  Every day, you’re the first kid to wake, eager to invent something new and unique.  You see art and possibility within everything (which usually comes at the expense of messing the house!).  I think that’s an incredibly rare and admirable quality for an individual.

Sure, sometimes regular school is not interesting, and how could it be to a child who built a V8 engine with her daddy at age 9.  Still, it’s important you always give your best effort, whether it’s working with boring fractions or constructing office space for a doll out of paper and various household appliances!  You need to feed your mind well-rounded meals for it to grow to its fullest potential and savor the desserts.

All that said, Rosie, my challenge for you is to never stop dreaming.  Never stop being inspired.  Never stop asking questions.  And never, ever let anybody say you can’t.

Love you baby girl.  Hope you’re having fun in Forensic Chemistry class.  See you at 11:30 when it’s over.

~Daddy
