Dear Ava,
Apples for breakfast? Today I chaperoned your preschool field trip to the Orchard. From the start I knew it was going to be another magical morning moment…
Although you sat in the row next to me on the bus, you reached across and never let go of my hand. You didn’t stop looking back and smiling the whole hour drive into the countryside. When we arrived at Kuiper’s Farm, we held hands with your best friends, Avi and Corina, and made our way to the tractor trailer for a hay ride. We saw and learned about red, yellow and green apples, then tasted some fresh varieties. You and I both liked the sweeter kind over the bitter. It was 9:30 am and this was our breakfast!
Next, we visited the beehives, and were shown why we can thank them for our tasty apples. I was the only parent who held their child throughout the demonstration. After that, you twirled around and fluttered like a little bee on our walk through the orchard. You were told how they harvest the fruit and why sometimes they need to spray the trees when bugs harm them.
Our last stop was the cider house, where we saw apples turning into yummy drinks. We stepped into the apple cooler and smelled the sweet smell of hundreds of bushels stacked. They let us pick our own red apples then we headed to the school bus to go home. On our way back, you nestled your head in my chest and said you loved me. A few minutes later, we were bouncing down the bumpy country road and you were fast asleep, using my lap as a pillow.
Now that’s a breakfast time to remember!
Love,
Daddy
